Classrooms are filled with natural materials such as wooden toys and furnishings, woven baskets, and woolen animals and dolls. Children go outdoors every day in every season (excluding unsafe weather). There, they are free to climb and dig in the dirt, and to create with us, building structures or tending our garden.
Located in Alexandria, at 424 N Washington St, our school was started 1997 as the only Waldorf School in Northern Virginia. Our early childhood program supports Pre-K 3 through kindergarten, with half-day and full-day options.

As a father, I am thrilled with the educational experience that my two daughters are having at Potomac Crescent Waldorf School. The children spend much needed time outdoors, engaging with the natural world. The teachers use rich storytelling to elicit wonder and teach values. The curriculum is designed to stimulate creativity and a love of learning. Here's the real key: My children wake up happy and excited to go to school!

I love the school. The teachers are well-qualified (and sometimes over-qualified) and passionate. We have two children in the school, and can't be more pleased. Also I enjoy parent association events (bonfires, weekend camping trips, sing-alongs), educational opportunities (Waldorf education experts giving talks in the evenings, parent-teacher evenings learning about child development), and the beautiful school events like the Spiral of Light and lantern walks.

We've been parents in the school community for almost 7 years now, starting with Parent/Child classes. We were initially attracted to the play centered learning in early childhood and the focus on outdoor activity; we have stayed for the values and the way in which the pedagogical approach matches the development patterns of the children... The icing on the cake is the outcome, a happy, resilient and insatiably curious child who enjoys school and loves to learn.
